Chapter 1 - The Shattered Glass

The grand luxury dining room was heavy with the scent of expensive wine and warm candlelight, but the atmosphere was completely suffocating.
I stood frozen, gripping my serving tray. Madison, wearing a pale silver sequined backless dress, leaned over the luxury dining table. Her perfectly manicured hand shot out, her fingers digging viciously into the fragile shoulder of Margaret, an elegantly dressed elderly woman. Margaret gasped, her eyes wide with quiet, absolute terror.
I didn't think. I just moved.
I stepped aggressively between them, using my heavy serving tray as a physical shield to completely block Madison from touching the terrified mother.
"Don't touch her again," I warned, my voice low, steady, and vibrating with absolute authority.
Madison yanked her arm back in sheer, arrogant shock. She lost her balance in her high heels, stumbling backward until she fell hard against the dark wood-paneled wall. Her silver dress caught the warm candlelight as she hit the floor.
At that exact second, my elbow bumped a crystal water glass. It plummeted off the table, shattering violently across the polished marble floor. The sharp, explosive sound instantly silenced the entire VIP room.
Then, the heavy back corridor doors swung open.
Garrett, a towering, broad-shouldered man in a tailored black suit, stepped into the room. The wealthy guests gasped, freezing in absolute terror at his intimidating presence. Garrett stared blankly at his fiancée sprawled on the floor, then shifted his cold, unreadable eyes to me.
Madison immediately clutched her side, looking up with a beautifully faked, tearful expression of victimhood. "She attacked me!" Madison’s voice cracked perfectly.
Garrett completely ignored her. He stared dead into my eyes. His face was entirely devoid of emotion.

"Go home for the night," Garrett commanded quietly.
👉 Madison smirked, thinking she had just successfully fired me, but she had absolutely no idea why Garrett had actually sent me away.
