Chapter 8 - The Undeniable Proof

The side door of the private dining room suddenly swung open.
Marcus, the towering head of security, stepped into the candlelight. He wasn't alone. He was pushing a heavy audiovisual presentation cart, and in his gloved hand, he held a clear plastic evidence bag containing the teacup I had swapped.
"The police have arrived at the service entrance, sir," Marcus announced smoothly. "And the field test on the tea confirmed a massive dose of the sedative."
Madison shrieked in horror, covering her face with her hands.
Marcus tapped the tablet on his cart. The massive flat-screen television on the far wall flared to life. The high-definition video from my smartphone began playing on a loop, projecting massive, undeniable footage of Madison pulling the vial from her gold clutch and dumping the blue powder directly into Margaret’s drink.
"You poisoned my mother," Garrett whispered, the raw, agonizing betrayal echoing off the marble floors. "You tortured her in my own house, just to force her to sign away an estate you were too greedy to wait for."
"I was going to be your wife!" Madison sobbed hysterically, crawling desperately across the floor toward his expensive leather shoes. "I just wanted to secure our future! She was in the way, Garrett! She hated me!"
