Chapter 4 - The Swapped Cup

I didn't have time to call the police or search for Garrett. The sedative would take effect within three minutes of consumption.
I walked swiftly toward their table, holding my silver serving tray perfectly balanced. I had a fresh cup of hot chamomile tea resting on the far edge.
As I approached, I intentionally caught the toe of my shoe on the thick edge of the Persian rug. I stumbled forward, letting out a sharp gasp, and bumped the heavy wooden table.
"I am so sorry, ladies," I apologized quickly, my hands moving with practiced, flawless speed.
In the brief second of chaotic distraction, I seamlessly swapped the poisoned teacup with the fresh one, sliding the deadly evidence underneath the thick white linen napkin on my serving tray.
Madison glared at me, her eyes burning with toxic disgust. "Watch where you're walking, you clumsy idiot. Get out of our sight."
I bowed my head and stepped back into the shadows, clutching the tray.
Ten minutes passed. Madison watched Margaret closely, expecting the elderly woman’s eyes to glaze over. But Margaret remained fully awake, refusing to pick up the gold pen.

Madison's fake sweetness completely evaporated. Panic and rage hijacked her nervous system. She leaned over the table, her claws digging viciously into Margaret's fragile shoulder to physically force her hand onto the legal documents.
👉 Madison cornered the terrified mother against the wall, forcing me to step in and trigger the explosive confrontation.
