Chapter 1 - The Broken Promise

The grand hall of the sprawling luxury mansion was a breathtaking display of opulent wealth and high-society glamour. Massive crystal chandeliers cast a warm, golden glow over an elegant dining table adorned with gold chairs and pristine white flowers. In the blurred background, dozens of formal guests in expensive evening wear mingled, sipping imported champagne.

But at the center of the room, the sophisticated atmosphere was violently shattered by a woman who believed her new status made her untouchable.

Cassandra, a woman in her thirties wearing a plunging, skin-tight dark red evening gown, stood near the grand staircase. Her flawless face was twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated arrogance.

She pointed a manicured finger directly at an eleven-year-old girl.

Lily, wearing a beautiful dark blue sparkly dress, was sobbing uncontrollably. Her tiny shoulders shook as tears streamed down her flushed cheeks. Standing protectively beside her was Natalie, a maid in her mid-twenties with her brown hair pinned in a neat updo, wearing a classic black dress with a crisp white collar and apron.

"Take her upstairs, right now," Cassandra barked, her voice echoing harshly over the quiet murmurs of the wealthy guests. "She is ruining my engagement party with this pathetic tantrum! I won't have this little brat embarrassing me in front of my friends!"

Natalie immediately pulled the sobbing girl closer. Lily buried her face into Natalie’s arm, looking absolutely terrified of the woman in the red dress.

"Please don’t make me leave," Lily whimpered, her small hands clutching the maid’s white apron. "He promised I could stay."

"I don't care what he promised!" Cassandra shrieked, taking a vicious step toward the child.

Suddenly, a towering figure stepped directly between Cassandra and the little girl.

Gabriel.

He was forty years old, fiercely handsome with dark hair, wearing a sharp black suit, a crisp white shirt, and a dark tie. He held a crystal champagne glass in his hand. He was the undisputed boss of the city's most powerful mafia syndicate, and the father of the crying eleven-year-old girl.

Gabriel didn't raise his voice. He turned his head to glare coldly at his fiancée, his jaw clenched in quiet, cinematic fury.
