Chapter 7 - The Warehouse Trap

Three hours later, Cassandra was shivering in a cheap, rundown motel room on the edge of the city. Her expensive dark red evening gown was torn and stained from being thrown out of the mansion.
She was frantically packing a small duffel bag, hyperventilating as she pressed her cell phone to her ear.
"You have to get me out of here!" Cassandra shrieked into the phone. "Gabriel threw me out! I don't have the rest of the money! The hit is compromised! Send a car right now!"
"Calm down, Cassandra," the cold voice of the Barone underboss replied. "A car is waiting for you at the abandoned shipyard in sector four. Bring the offshore account drives. We will extract you."
Cassandra hung up, grabbed her bag, and sprinted out of the motel.
She arrived at the dark, freezing shipyard an hour later, running toward the headlights of a black SUV parked near the docks.
"Thank God," Cassandra gasped, pulling the heavy car door open.
But it wasn't the Barone underboss sitting in the driver's seat.
It was Gabriel.
Cassandra let out a blood-curdling scream of pure despair, trying to run away, but two massive syndicate guards immediately stepped out of the shadows, grabbing her violently by the arms and slamming her against the side of the SUV.
"Did you really think I wouldn't trace the wire transfers?" Gabriel whispered, stepping out of the car, his dark suit blending perfectly into the night.
"Gabriel, please!" Cassandra sobbed pathetically, dropping to her knees on the cold concrete. "They forced me! They said they would kill me if I didn't steal from you! I never wanted to hurt Lily!"
