Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Checkmate

Gabriel didn't kill her. A bullet was too quick for what she had done.

"Hand me your phone," Gabriel commanded.

Cassandra handed it over with shaking, terrified fingers. Gabriel unlocked the device and opened the offshore banking app. With a few swift, encrypted keystrokes, Gabriel didn't just freeze the half-million dollars she had stolen. He deployed a highly aggressive syndicate virus directly into the Barone family's linked accounts.

Within sixty seconds, over forty million dollars of the rival cartel's illegal funds were completely drained and routed to untraceable ghost accounts.

Gabriel had just bankrupted his greatest enemy using their own spy's phone.

"You didn't just fail your mission, Cassandra," Gabriel whispered lethally, tossing the phone onto the ground and crushing it under his polished shoe. "You just cost the Barone family their entire empire. They are going to be looking for you. And they are not going to be happy."

Cassandra’s eyes widened in absolute, paralyzing horror. She realized that Gabriel wasn't going to execute her. He was going to hand her directly back to the ruthless cartel she had just accidentally bankrupted.

"No! Please!" Cassandra wailed hysterically, crawling toward Gabriel's feet. "Don't give me back to them! They will torture me! Kill me yourself, Gabriel! Have mercy!"

"You showed my daughter no mercy," Gabriel stated coldly.

The headlights of three heavily armored Barone SUVs suddenly illuminated the far end of the shipyard. The rival cartel had arrived for the extraction.

Gabriel turned to his guards. "Leave her here."

Gabriel climbed back into his armored SUV. The vehicle sped away into the night, leaving the weeping, thrashing Cassandra entirely alone on the concrete docks, waiting for the furious, bankrupt cartel to arrive.
