Chapter 4 - The Public Humiliation

Cassandra hyperventilated, her flawless, heavily contoured face turning the color of wet chalk.

"You're going to take the word of a minimum-wage maid over your future wife?!" Cassandra shrieked hysterically, desperately trying to salvage her shattered dignity in front of the elite crowd. "I am going to be the queen of this syndicate! I am going to run this estate! Fire her right now, Gabriel!"

Gabriel didn't argue. He simply handed his champagne glass to a passing waiter.

He stepped directly into Cassandra's personal space. His towering, muscular frame cast a massive shadow over her red designer gown.

"You aren't running anything," Gabriel whispered, his voice a low, lethal rumble that carried through the dead-silent hall.

Without breaking eye contact, Gabriel reached out and violently grabbed Cassandra’s left hand. He didn't care about being gentle. He ripped the massive, flawless five-carat diamond engagement ring right off her manicured finger.

Cassandra gasped, letting out a sharp cry of absolute shock as the symbol of her stolen wealth and power was completely stripped away.

"The engagement is over," Gabriel declared loudly, ensuring every single guest, politician, and syndicate lieutenant in the room heard him clearly. "You are nothing to me. And you are nothing to this family."

"Gabriel, please!" Cassandra sobbed pathetically, dropping her arrogant facade and completely shattering into a desperate, cornered coward. "I love you! I can be a good mother! Don't humiliate me like this!"

"You humiliated yourself the second you touched my daughter's necklace," Gabriel replied, completely devoid of human empathy.

He looked at the massive, heavily armed syndicate guards standing at the perimeter of the grand hall.
