Chapter 9 - The Lethal Judgment

Evan walked right past the trembling blonde woman, completely ignoring her existence for a brief, agonizing moment.
He stopped directly in front of Grace. He looked at the angry red handprint blooming on the young housekeeper's cheek. The cold, murderous intent in his eyes softened for a fraction of a second, replaced by a profound, heavy respect. He saw how she was still standing protectively over his children, entirely willing to take a beating for a family that wasn't even hers.
Evan reached down and gently placed his large, powerful hands on Sophie and Caleb’s heads, silently reassuring them that the nightmare was completely over.
Then, Evan slowly turned around, placing his massive frame firmly between his family and the woman he was supposed to marry.
"It... it was a misunderstanding, Evan!" Vanessa sobbed frantically, tears of pure panic ruining her expensive makeup. "The maid is crazy! She attacked me! I love your kids, I swear!"
Evan’s dark eyes locked onto Vanessa.
"You're right, Vanessa," Evan said, his voice deadly quiet, echoing off the stone walls of the terrace with a chilling finality. "This is my house."
He took one slow step toward her. Vanessa stumbled backward, a frantic, trembling gasp escaping her lips as her expensive pink heels slipped on the marble.
