Chapter 5 - The Gentle Touch

While Vanessa screamed her frantic, chaotic lies, Grace completely ignored the terrifying mafia boss standing right behind her. Her sole focus was entirely on the little boy trembling in her arms.
Grace gently touched Noah's shoulder, her fingers softly rubbing the fabric of his light blue formal vest to calm his racing heart. Her beautiful eyes were welling with heavy, realistic tears, the stinging pain on her cheek pulsing violently, but she swallowed her own fear.
She had to stay strong for the child.
"I'm okay, Noah," Grace whispered, her voice incredibly shaky but layered with profound, unconditional love. She rested her forehead against the little boy's dark hair. "I'm okay, sweetie. Don't be scared. Mama Grace is right here."
Damian looked down. He watched the way the terrified three-year-old clung to the nanny’s navy blue uniform as if it were the safest place in the entire universe. He watched how Grace, despite being physically assaulted and threatened by a billionaire heiress, prioritized comforting his son over defending herself.
Then, Damian’s slow eye movement shifted.
He looked at the side of Grace’s face. In the golden light of the Miami sunset, the angry, swelling red mark in the exact shape of Vanessa’s hand was completely undeniable.
