Chapter 6 - The Protector Steps In

Medium close-up: Vincent stopped exactly one foot away from the fallen maid.

He didn't immediately yell. His dark, piercing eyes locked intensely onto the torn fabric of Claire's uniform, the bright red streak of blood on her trembling palm, and the thousands of shattered crystal shards scattered across the marble floor.

The muscles in Vincent's jaw tightened instantly into a rigid, unyielding line of suppressed, lethal fury. He towered over the scene, his broad shoulders blocking the harsh glare of the crystal chandeliers from the weeping woman on the floor.

He slowly turned his terrifying gaze toward his glamorous fiancée.

"Who did this?" Vincent demanded. His deep voice wasn't a shout. It was a cold, incredibly quiet rumble that carried the absolute, unforgiving authority of an executioner preparing to drop the blade.

Vanessa’s malicious, arrogant sneer faltered for a fraction of a second. She felt a sudden, sickening jolt of panic as she realized her fiancé wasn't looking at the maid with disgust; he was looking at her with absolute rage.

But Vanessa’s massive ego quickly overrode her survival instincts. She plastered a fake, overly dramatic look of victimhood onto her face.

"Vincent, darling, she attacked me!" Vanessa shrieked loudly, pointing a manicured finger at the trembling woman on the floor. "She intentionally spilled champagne on my custom gown and then tried to grab my arm! I had to shove her away to defend myself! You need to have security throw her out into the street right now!"

Vincent didn't look convinced. He slowly looked back down at the maid, fully intending to ask her for her side of the story.
