Chapter 8 - The Interrogation

Medium close-up: Hearing the matriarch's breathless gasp, Vanessa immediately turned toward Eleanor.

The toxic, arrogant fiancée completely, spectacularly misread the absolute horror written across the older woman's face. Vanessa genuinely believed that Eleanor was clutching her pearls in shock at the "incompetence" of the domestic staff, assuming the matriarch was equally disgusted by the ruined aesthetic of the luxurious gala.

A cruel, smug smile spread across Vanessa’s face.

"I'm sorry you had to see this, Eleanor," Vanessa said, smirking maliciously as she dramatically smoothed down the front of her white engagement gown. "She's been behaving inappropriately all evening. I've told Vincent a dozen times that we need to hire higher-class help for the estate. Don't worry, I'll have security remove her from the property immediately."

Eleanor didn't even look at Vanessa. She completely ignored the toxic fiancée's cruel, rambling words as if the woman didn't even exist.

Tears began welling heavily in the matriarch's eyes, overflowing and streaming down her lined cheeks, ruining her expensive makeup. She took a slow, incredibly trembling step forward, pushing past her shocked son, moving directly into the center of the shattered glass.

Close-up: Eleanor dropped entirely to her knees on the marble floor right in front of the terrified maid. She didn't care about the sharp shards digging through her blue sequined gown.

She reached out with a violently shaking hand, her fingers stopping just a millimeter above the distinct, crescent-shaped scar on Claire's exposed shoulder.

"That scar..." Eleanor asked, her voice trembling so violently it echoed through the silent ballroom with devastating emotional power. "...where did you get it?"
