Chapter 3 - The Yellow Bracelet

Norah shrank back slightly, intimidated by the sheer, crushing presence of the billionaire CEO standing over her.

"Mr. Moretti, I'm so sorry," Norah whispered, her voice shaking with pain and humiliation. "I had the final financial reports for the merger. I didn't want to let the team down."

Dominic didn't care about the financial reports.

A tight close-up captured Dominic slowly reaching out. He gently took Norah’s trembling wrist. Without asking for permission, he carefully pulled back the heavy fabric of her long black evening glove.

Hidden underneath the elegant black silk, wrapped tightly around her pale, bruised wrist, was a bright yellow hospital admission bracelet.

Dominic’s jaw tightened. The natural micro-expressions on his handsome face shifted into a cold, protective fury. The bright yellow bracelet meant she hadn't just been in the emergency room—she was a high-risk trauma admission who had checked herself out against medical advice just to bring him a file.

"Subway stairs?" Dominic asked, his voice dropping into a quiet, dangerous whisper.

He wasn't asking a question. He was repeating the exact lie she had undoubtedly told the emergency room doctors to explain her bruised ribs and injured ankle.

Norah swallowed hard, terrified of losing her job. "Yes, sir. I fell on the subway stairs. It was just a stupid accident."
