Chapter 4 - The Evidence Bag

Before Dominic could press Norah for the truth, the heavy double doors of the ballroom violently swung open.

Rocco, the massive, intimidating Chief of Security for Dominic’s personal estate, marched directly into the elegant gala. He completely ruined the high-society aesthetic. Rocco’s hair was soaking wet from the pouring rain outside, and his dark suit was heavily wrinkled.

But it was what he was holding that made the entire ballroom fall dead silent.

Rocco marched straight up to Dominic, holding a clear, sealed plastic police evidence bag. Inside the bag was a single, heavily damaged black stiletto heel, the fabric torn and stained with dark street grime.

"Boss," Rocco announced, his deep voice echoing across the marble floor.

Dominic didn't look at the shoe. He looked at Rocco, his dark eyes demanding an immediate explanation.

"The police just pulled the traffic camera footage from the downtown intersection," Rocco stated clearly, ignoring the stunned gasps from the wealthy guests. "It wasn't a mugging. And it wasn't a hit-and-run."

Rocco turned his gaze toward Norah, who was still leaning heavily against the doorframe, trembling in her torn green velvet dress.
