Chapter 4 - The Ultimatum

Garrett aggressively slammed both of his hands flat onto the white tablecloth, rattling the expensive silverware.

He couldn't stand her defiance. He needed her to break. He was secretly millions of dollars in debt to a syndicate of ruthless offshore lenders, and Claire’s inheritance was the only lifeboat he had left. If the money wasn't wired by midnight, he was a dead man.

He leaned in closer, his expensive cologne mixing sickeningly with the smell of spilled wine.

"Don't make me say it twice," Garrett commanded, his voice a low, vibrating growl of pure menace. "You are going to open your phone. You are going to log into the private banking portal. And you are going to wire the half-million dollars right now. If you don't, I swear to God, I will ruin you. I will freeze your assets, I will drag your father's name through the mud, and you will leave this marriage with absolutely nothing."

It was textbook extortion. He was openly threatening to destroy her life if she didn't hand over the money.

Vivian smiled proudly at her son’s ruthless dominance.

Claire looked at the man she had once promised to love forever. She saw the absolute, terrifying monster hiding beneath the tailored suit and the expensive watch.

"Okay," Claire whispered quietly.

👉 Garrett smirked, believing he had finally won the war, completely unaware that Claire was reaching for a weapon.
