Chapter 5 - The Silent Dial

Garrett let out a heavy sigh of relief, leaning back in his chair. He adjusted his suit jacket, his smug, arrogant persona instantly returning.

"Good girl," Garrett sneered. "I knew you'd finally see reason."

Claire slowly reached into her designer clutch resting on the edge of the table. She pulled out her sleek smartphone. The screen illuminated her calm, resolute face in the dim candlelight of the private dining room.

Garrett and Vivian watched her, fully expecting her to open her banking application and authorize the massive, life-saving wire transfer.

But Claire didn't open a banking app.

She bypassed the security screen and opened her phone dialer. With precise, deliberate movements, she typed a number. It wasn't three digits. She didn't dial 911 for a local dispatcher.

She tapped a highly encrypted, direct contact number she had saved just three days ago.

She pressed the green call button and laid the phone completely flat on the white tablecloth, right next to the wine-stained linen napkin.

The screen glowed brightly. Call Connected.

Garrett frowned, his dark eyes locking onto the glowing screen. "What are you doing? Who are you calling? I told you to open the bank portal!"

👉 Claire didn't touch the phone again, but the devastating words she was about to speak would seal her husband's doom.
