Chapter 1 - The Forbidden Cake

The elegant outdoor night party was a breathtaking display of unimaginable wealth. Thousands of twinkling string lights were draped elegantly through the ancient oak trees, and massive crystal chandeliers hung directly from the thick branches, casting a warm, cinematic glow over the sprawling manicured lawns. Elite guests in perfectly tailored formal evening wear stood near the white marble counter, sipping expensive champagne and laughing.

But the glamorous symphony of high society was violently interrupted by a heartbreaking sight.

Standing on her tiptoes at the edge of the pristine white marble counter was a tiny, barefoot little girl. She was no older than six, shivering in the cool night air. Her messy, wavy brown hair was tangled with leaves, and a thick layer of dirt covered her pale face. She wore a filthy, tattered grey cardigan over a completely ripped floral dress.

Her enormous, hollow eyes were locked entirely onto the massive, multi-tiered white and gold wedding cake resting on a polished silver stand. Driven by pure, agonizing starvation, her tiny, trembling hand slowly reached out toward the bottom tier.

She didn't even touch the frosting before a vicious hand slapped the marble counter right next to her.

Eleanor, a woman in her late fifties radiating cold arrogance, stormed over. She wore a breathtaking long-sleeve burgundy silk gown, her blonde hair styled up flawlessly, heavy diamond earrings glittering in the chandelier light. Her face was twisted into a mask of pure, unfiltered disgust as she looked down at the starving child.

"Keep your hands off," Eleanor hissed, her voice harsh and dripping with venom. "That food is not for you."

The little girl violently shrank back, pulling her dirty hand against her chest. Tears instantly flooded her large eyes, carving clean tracks through the dirt on her cheeks.
