Chapter 3 - A Taste of Kindness

The heavy, suffocating tension surrounding the dessert table was palpable. No one dared to breathe. Damian held the absolute power to ruin anyone in this garden, and Eleanor knew it. She swallowed her venomous pride, taking a tense step backward, her diamond earrings shaking as she glared at the child.
Damian turned his back on the arrogant matriarch.
The terrifying, ruthless mafia boss slowly knelt down on the hard stone patio, completely uncaring that the dirt from the little girl's bare feet was touching the expensive fabric of his navy blue tuxedo. He brought himself perfectly down to her eye level.
The little girl trembled violently, pressing her back against the marble counter. She was terrified of large men. She squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for an impact.
But the impact never came.
Instead, Damian gently held out the white plate. The slice of white and gold cake sat perfectly in the center.
"It's yours," Damian said. His voice, usually used to command empires and execute traitors, was shockingly gentle and incredibly kind.
The little girl slowly opened her eyes. She looked from the delicious cake to the towering man in the navy tuxedo. Tears were still streaming steadily down her dirty face, her chest heaving with silent, exhausted sobs. She had been surviving on the streets for so long that human kindness felt like a trap.
"Really?" the little girl whispered, her tearful voice breaking in absolute disbelief.
Damian smiled warmly at her, his realistic facial micro-expressions softening into pure paternal empathy.
"Really," Damian reassured her softly. "You don't have to be afraid."
With a trembling hand, the little girl reached out. She didn't use a fork. She grabbed the cake directly with her dirty fingers and took a massive, desperate bite.

"Thank you," she cried softly, her mouth full of frosting.
👉 Damian watched her eat with a warm smile, but a tiny object hidden beneath her ripped dress was about to freeze the blood in his veins.
