Chapter 7 - The Cornered Monster

"She's lying!" Eleanor shrieked, her voice cracking in absolute, unhinged panic.
She frantically pointed at the terrified child hiding behind the mafia boss. "She's a filthy street rat! She stole that necklace! She's a manipulative little thief! Security! Shoot her! Shoot the beggar right now!"
Two massive private security guards in black suits stepped forward from the edge of the party, reaching into their jackets for their concealed weapons, blindly following the matriarch's desperate orders.
But they were dealing with the most dangerous man in the city.
Before the guards could even unclip their holsters, Damian stood up.
He didn't draw a weapon. He didn't have to. Damian simply raised his right hand and snapped his fingers once.
The luxurious outdoor gala instantly transformed into a heavily armed warzone. Over twenty men in the crowd—men who appeared to be wealthy guests in tuxedos—simultaneously drew suppressed firearms and aimed them directly at Eleanor’s two security guards. A dozen red laser dots painted the chests of the men who had dared to threaten Damian's child.
The two guards immediately raised their empty hands in sheer terror, dropping to their knees on the grass, entirely surrendering to the overwhelming power of the syndicate.
The elite guests screamed, completely horrified, scrambling backward to get as far away from the center of the patio as possible.
