Chapter 2 - The Silent Defender

The wealthy guests murmured in disgust, stepping backward to protect their expensive gowns and tuxedos from the filthy child. Eleanor sneered, fully preparing to signal the armed security guards to drag the weeping girl out into the dark streets like a stray dog.
But before Eleanor could snap her fingers, the temperature at the marble counter seemed to plunge to freezing.
The sea of elite billionaires and socialites instinctively parted in absolute silence.
Stepping forward from the shadows was Damian. The handsome man in his early thirties was the undisputed king of the city's underground syndicate, a mafia boss whose immense power demanded absolute submission. He wore a sharp, custom-tailored navy blue tuxedo with a dark black dress shirt. His short dark hair was perfectly styled, and a subtle, rugged stubble lined his razor-sharp jaw.
Damian did not look at Eleanor. He did not look at the gasping crowd. His dark, calculating eyes were locked entirely onto the sobbing little girl in the tattered cardigan.
He moved with terrifying, slow-motion grace. Without uttering a single word, Damian stepped directly up to the white marble counter, completely ignoring Eleanor's imposing presence.
He reached out with a massive, powerful hand. He picked up a pristine white porcelain plate, picked up the heavy silver cake knife, and calmly, deliberately cut a massive slice of the white and gold wedding cake.
Eleanor gasped, her face turning crimson with aristocratic outrage. "Damian! What are you doing? That cake costs more than her life! She is a filthy beggar!"
Damian didn't even blink. He slid the knife out, placing the rich slice of cake onto the plate. He slowly turned his lethal, cold gaze toward the older woman in the burgundy gown.

"She asked for a piece of cake," Damian said, his voice calm, heavy, and vibrating with absolute, unquestionable authority.
👉 Eleanor was completely paralyzed by the mafia boss's lethal stare, but Damian’s next interaction with the child would change his entire life.
