Chapter 1 - The Swing and the Fall

The grand luxury gala ballroom was a breathtaking display of unimaginable wealth, illuminated by thousands of crystals dripping from the towering chandeliers above. Elite guests, dressed in pristine black tuxedos and designer formal gowns, stood sipping from crystal champagne glasses on the highly polished marble floor. But the elegant, high-society symphony was violently shattered in a fraction of a second.

Samantha’s face was completely contorted with a furious, unhinged rage.

The 35-year-old woman, wearing a sparkly red long-sleeve gown with a daring deep V-neck and a high slit, lost every ounce of her aristocratic composure. With a vicious snarl, she lunged forward, throwing a wild, aggressive punch directly at the face of the woman standing in front of her.

It happened in cinematic slow-motion.

Victoria, wearing a sleek, short one-shoulder black dress with her dark hair flawlessly slicked back, didn't flinch. She didn't scream. With terrifying, lethal calmness, Victoria smoothly leaned her upper body back. The red sparkly sleeve of Samantha’s gown sliced through the empty air, missing Victoria’s face by mere millimeters.

Before Samantha could recover her balance, Victoria moved. In one singular, fluid, and devastatingly precise motion, Victoria countered. She struck Samantha’s extended arm and swept her center of gravity, using the furious woman’s own momentum against her.

Samantha was sent flying backward through the air.

CRASH.
