Chapter 5 - The Two-Billion-Dollar Illusion

The heavy footsteps of the security team echoed loudly against the marble. They were seconds away from violently grabbing Victoria's arms.

"Stand down."

The command wasn't loud, but it carried the absolute, unquestionable weight of a man who owned the entire building.

An older gentleman with silver hair, wearing a sharp, classic tuxedo, stepped out from the VIP lounge. The murmurs in the crowd instantly died. It was Arthur Sterling. He was the undisputed titan of Wall Street, the head of the massive conglomerate that was finalizing the acquisition of Richard and Samantha's tech company tonight.

The security guards immediately backed away, lowering their heads in deep respect.

Richard’s aggressive posture completely vanished. He instantly transformed back into a pathetic, desperate businessman eager to please his buyer.

"Mr. Sterling, I am so incredibly sorry for this interruption," Richard stammered, sweating profusely under the crystal chandeliers. "This woman is my unstable ex-wife. She has a history of mental illness and fraud. We are handling it quietly so we can proceed with the two-billion-dollar contract signing."

Samantha quickly wiped her ruined makeup, trying to force an elegant smile. "Yes, Mr. Sterling. Tonight is about our future, not the trash of the past."
