Chapter 2 - The Smile of a Predator

The heavy, suffocating silence in the ballroom was broken only by the pathetic sound of Samantha groaning in pain on the hard marble.

The older men in tuxedos stood entirely paralyzed, staring at the woman in the red dress sprawled out on the floor.

The camera angle of the room seemed to shift, starting low on Samantha’s humiliated, bruised form, then slowly tilting upward to reveal Victoria. The woman in the black dress stood towering over her fallen enemy. Her breathing was slow, natural, and remarkably steady. Her realistic facial micro-expressions showed absolutely no regret.

Instead, Victoria looked down at the woman who had ruined her life, and a calm, elegant, and deeply satisfied smile spread across her lips.

Three years ago, Samantha had been Victoria’s best friend. Three years ago, Samantha had secretly slept with Victoria’s husband, helped him forge documents to frame Victoria for corporate embezzlement, and forced her to flee the country with absolutely nothing to avoid a corrupt prison sentence. Samantha had stolen her husband, her home, and her billion-dollar tech company.

Samantha gasped for air, her elaborate updo now a messy, tangled disaster. She looked up at Victoria, her eyes widening in pure, unfiltered terror.

"You..." Samantha choked out, clutching her bruised shoulder. "You're supposed to be in Europe. You can't be here!"

"I got tired of the food, Samantha," Victoria replied, her voice a smooth, icy whisper that chilled the room. "And I decided it was time to come collect what belongs to me."

👉 Samantha was bleeding on the floor, but her ultimate protector was about to violently push his way through the crowd.
