Chapter 9 - The Arrogant Officer's Fall

The chaotic, violent energy of the arrest completely evaporated from the elegant dining room.

The military police cleared the room, leaving only Mark, Samantha, and the terrified family guests crawling out from under the tables.

Chad was still pinned against the wall, sweating profusely, trembling in his pristine dress uniform. The thirty-four-year-old officer looked incredibly small, entirely stripped of his smug, condescending arrogance.

Samantha walked slowly toward him. The sharp click of her heels against the hardwood floor made Chad flinch in sheer terror.

She stopped exactly two feet in front of him. She didn't yell. She didn't raise her hand. She simply looked at him with the cold, composed expression of a woman who had survived the fires of hell.

"I'm... I'm sorry, Commander," Chad stammered pathetically, tears of sheer humiliation pooling in his eyes. "I didn't know. I was just joking. Please... please don't report me to the brass."

"I don't have to," Samantha replied quietly.

The four-star Fleet Admiral, who was waiting near the doorway, overheard the exchange. He looked at Chad with absolute, freezing contempt.

"Officer," the Fleet Admiral barked. "If I ever hear that you disrespected a decorated combat veteran again, you will be scrubbing the decks of a cargo ship in the Arctic until the day you retire. Do you understand me?"

"Yes, sir!" Chad squeaked, completely humiliated in front of his entire family, his career aspirations permanently shattered.
