Chapter 10 - The Fall of the Red Dress

"Marcus, please!" Vivian begged, crawling on her hands and knees, ignoring the pain in her legs. "I didn't know who she was! I'm sorry! I'll do anything!"
Marcus adjusted his black suit jacket, his face a mask of cold, cinematic realism.
"If you had known she was my mother, you would have smiled and played the saint," Marcus said quietly. "But you didn't know. So you showed me exactly the kind of monster you truly are."
He didn't raise his voice. He simply snapped his fingers.
Four heavily armed syndicate enforcers stepped out of the shadows.
"Strip her of the diamonds," Marcus ordered smoothly. "Empty her bank accounts. Burn her apartment to the ground. And when she has absolutely nothing left... throw her in the street with the rest of the garbage."
"No! Please!" Vivian shrieked in absolute agony as the massive men violently grabbed her arms, dragging her backward across the polished marble floor. Her terrified screams echoed through the grand luxury gala as she was hauled out of the ballroom, completely stripped of her wealth, her status, and her future.
The threat was gone. Marcus turned around as the medics safely secured his mother onto the stretcher, her vitals finally stabilizing thanks to the oxygen.
He looked at Sophie, the brave maid who had risked her own job and safety to protect a stranger.
"You aren't a maid anymore, Sophie," Marcus said, his voice thick with profound gratitude. "You are my mother's personal guardian. Name your salary. You will never have to worry about anything ever again."

Sophie smiled through her tears, watching the paramedics roll the matriarch to safety, knowing she had finally received the justice she deserved.
If you were Sophie, would you have been terrified to play that audio recording to a mafia boss, or would your anger at the socialite override your fear?
