Chapter 7 - The Hidden Lens

"You don't need to call the police, Eleanor," Hannah stated quietly.

Her voice wasn't a weak, pathetic whisper. It was remarkably steady, carrying a firm, undeniable authority that instantly silenced the arrogant whispers of the wealthy socialites.

Hannah reached into the small, hidden inner pocket of her green dress. She didn't pull out another stolen piece of jewelry. She pulled out a sleek, high-tech black remote control.

Eleanor frowned, her smug, triumphant smile violently faltering. "What is that?"

"When Matteo’s mother died in that 'accident' last year, he started having severe night terrors," Hannah explained clinically, her eyes locking onto Lucas. "He was constantly afraid of the dark, and he was terrified of strangers in the penthouse. So, to make him feel safe, I bought him a special teddy bear."

Hannah pointed toward the grand piano in the corner. Sitting innocently on top of the polished wood was Matteo’s favorite brown stuffed animal.

"What does a stupid toy have to do with you being a thief?!" Victoria shrieked, panic suddenly bleeding into her shrill voice.

"It's not a toy," Hannah replied coldly, staring dead into Victoria's eyes. "It's a military-grade, 4K nanny camera with a built-in parabolic microphone. It records everything that happens in the main living area, directly to the penthouse's secure cloud server."

Without hesitating for a single microsecond, Hannah pressed the primary button on the black remote.

Instantly, the massive, state-of-the-art 85-inch flat-screen television mounted on the far wall of the penthouse flashed to life. The ambient light of the room dimmed automatically as the hidden camera footage began to play in stunning, undeniable high definition.

👉 Eleanor’s face drained of all color, completely unaware that the audio on the tape was about to sign her death warrant.
