Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Eviction

The bright sunlight reflected off the white marble counter as Eleanor held the phone to her ear, watching her son weep on the floor.
"Send the letter," Eleanor commanded firmly into the smartphone. "The property is officially going on the market tomorrow morning. I want the immediate, legal eviction notice served to the current occupants by 5:00 PM today. If they aren't out, call the local sheriff."
She ended the call and slipped the smartphone back into her pocket.
She slowly placed the blue folder back into her brown leather tote bag. She picked up the bag from the marble counter. The sound of the heavy leather lifting felt like the final nail in the coffin of Mark's wealthy facade.
Claire was hyperventilating in the background, her hands covering her face as she realized her toxic entitlement had just left her homeless for the weekend and permanently cost them a two-million-dollar estate.
Eleanor turned her back on them both. She didn't scream, she didn't cry, and she didn't gloat. She simply walked out of the bright, modern beach house with the quiet, dignified grace of a woman who had finally reclaimed her absolute worth.

She left her son and his cruel wife kneeling on the floor, surrounded by the beautiful ocean view they would never own, completely destroyed by the consequences of their own horrific disrespect.
If you were Eleanor, would you have ever given your son a second chance to apologize, or was throwing your bag the ultimate, unforgivable betrayal?
