Chapter 8 - The Dream Shatters

Mark’s light blue button-down shirt was suddenly soaked in a cold sweat.
"Mom, please," Mark choked out, his aggressive arrogance completely melting into sheer, breathless panic. "It was just a misunderstanding! Claire was just stressed about hosting her sister! We want you here! You can stay in the master bedroom!"
Eleanor looked at the son who had just physically assaulted her by snatching her bag.
"Watching you throw my bag on the counter to make room for your wife's friends told me absolutely everything I ever needed to know about the man you've become," Eleanor said, completely devoid of mercy.
She held the blue folder tightly in her left hand and looked directly into Mark's terrified eyes.
"The cottage won't be yours," Eleanor stated with cold, absolute authority.
Claire let out a hysterical, high-pitched gasp from the background. "You can't do that! My sister is arriving in three hours! We invited ten people for a massive beach party! Where are they supposed to sleep?!"
