Eleanor shot him a glare so intensely lethal that he instantly froze, terrified to touch her again.
Eleanor calmly reached into her dark navy skirt pocket and pulled out her smartphone. She tapped the screen with a steady thumb, lifting the device to her ear. The cinematic tension in the bright kitchen was agonizing as Mark stared at her in shock, and Claire looked on in absolute, unadulterated disbelief.

"Hello, David," Eleanor said firmly into the phone, speaking to her long-time estate attorney. "Yes, I'm at the beachfront property now. There's been a permanent change of plans regarding the transfer."
"Mom, please!" Mark dropped to his knees right on the hardwood floor, sobbing. "I'm sorry! I'll make Claire leave! Just don't take the house!"
Claire shrieked in betrayal, staring at her husband on the floor. "Excuse me?! You're throwing me out?!"
