Chapter 6 - The Blue Folder

Eleanor pulled a thick, heavy blue folder out of the tote bag.

It wasn't a magazine. It wasn't a recipe book. It was an official, notarized legal document packet bearing the heavy gold embossed seal of a prominent real estate law firm.

She held the blue folder in one hand, completely steady in the natural sunlight pouring through the large ocean windows. She looked directly at her son with a cold, terrifying authority that Mark had never seen in his entire thirty-five years of life.

"What is that?" Claire scoffed, though her smug smile faltered, a flicker of nervous hesitation crossing her face as she noticed the official legal seals.

Mark frowned, his aggressive stance dropping into sheer confusion. "Mom, what are you doing? I told you to leave."

Eleanor didn't raise her voice. She didn't need to. The quiet power in her tone commanded absolute, unbreakable obedience.

"When your father passed away five years ago, he left this beach house entirely in my name," Eleanor stated calmly, her eyes locked onto Mark.
