Chapter 4 - The Cellar Door

The servant’s tunnel led directly down a steep, winding set of stone stairs, bypassing the mansion's main security grids entirely.
Cassian and Rosa emerged into the cold, damp shadows of the estate's sprawling underground wine cellar. The air smelled of aged oak and dust.
Cassian gently set Rosa down behind a massive oak wine barrel.
"Stay right here, Rosa," Cassian instructed gently, pulling his suit jacket off and wrapping it around her small shoulders to keep her warm. "Do not make a sound until I come back for you."
Rosa nodded bravely, clutching the black fabric of his jacket.
Cassian gripped his pistol, stepping silently through the aisles of expensive vintage wine. At the far end of the cellar, a heavy steel door stood slightly ajar. A sliver of harsh, artificial light spilled out onto the stone floor.
Cassian crept closer, moving with the lethal, silent grace of a ghost.
Through the crack in the door, he saw Elena. She was a beautiful woman in her twenties, wearing a torn black and white maid's uniform, her wrists bound tightly to a metal pipe with heavy zip ties. Her face was bruised, tears streaming down her pale cheeks.
Standing right in front of her was Vincent.
Vincent wore a sharp gray suit, the sleeves rolled up to reveal his signature solid gold Rolex. He was pacing arrogantly, holding a suppressed pistol, completely unaware that his boss was standing just ten feet away.
"As soon as my men confirm Cassian is dead, we are leaving," Vincent sneered, grabbing Elena roughly by the chin. "You are coming with me. And if you scream, I will send my guys upstairs to find your little brat."
"Please," Elena sobbed, thrashing against her restraints. "Just let my daughter go!"
Vincent laughed, a cruel, merciless sound. "She's a loose end, Elena."
