Chapter 5 - The Corporate Trap

"A bank audit," Arthur repeated calmly, his voice echoing perfectly across the highly reflective marble floors. "That's fascinating."

"It's just boring administrative red tape, darling," Victoria smirked, taking a sip of her expensive champagne as she reached the bottom of the grand staircase. "I'm handling it. You don't need to stress your brilliant mind with peasant problems."

Arthur didn't blink. He pulled a thick, legally notarized black folder from his suit jacket.

"I'm not stressed, Victoria," Arthur stated clinically, entirely devoid of human emotion. "Because I just spoke with the bank president fifteen minutes ago. There is no audit."

Victoria froze. Her crystal champagne glass hovered completely still in the air. The color began to slowly drain from her powdered face.

"Arthur, I... I might have misunderstood the email," Victoria stammered, her toxic arrogance instantly fracturing.

"You didn't misunderstand anything," Arthur continued ruthlessly, tossing the heavy black folder directly onto a nearby marble side table. "You systematically embezzled four million dollars over the last ninety days. You routed the money through a Cayman Islands shell company registered under your brother's name."

Victoria’s jaw literally unhinged. She physically staggered backward, her expensive silk dress swishing against the stairs. She was staring at her husband as if he had just turned into a ghost.

"I have the unredacted wire logs, Victoria," Arthur whispered, stepping closer, his towering frame completely dominating the hallway. "You stole from me. And worse, you terrorized an innocent mother and starved a child to cover your tracks."

"It's a mistake!" Victoria shrieked wildly, completely abandoning her elegant persona as sheer, unadulterated panic took over.

👉 Victoria frantically reached into her designer purse, completely unaware that her escape route was already destroyed.
