Chapter 8 - The Lethal Discovery

Arthur stood in the quiet hallway, staring at the cheap, pre-paid burner phone resting in his palm. A billionaire's wife with a diamond necklace had absolutely no reason to carry an untraceable phone.

He pressed the home button. The screen wasn't locked.

The device opened directly to an encrypted messaging app. The messages were entirely between Victoria and a highly dangerous, black-market pharmaceutical dealer.

Arthur’s blood ran completely, paralyzingly ice cold as he read the thread.

"Is the digitalis ready?" Victoria had texted just two days ago.

"Yes," the dealer replied. "It’s completely undetectable in autopsy. Just put three drops in his morning coffee. His heart will stop within twenty minutes, and it will look entirely natural."

"Perfect," Victoria had responded. "Once he is dead, the prenuptial agreement is void, and I inherit the entire corporate empire."

Arthur physically staggered backward, dropping the burner phone onto the marble floor.

Victoria hadn't just stolen four million dollars to run away. She was actively, aggressively plotting to murder him next week. She had starved his staff and hoarded the stolen cash specifically to pay for the untraceable poison and the hitman fees.

The absolute, crushing magnitude of her evil hit him with the force of a freight train. If a brave nine-year-old girl hadn't marched into the hallway today and demanded justice for her mother, Arthur would have been dead by next Friday.
