Chapter 1 - The Ghost in the Ballroom

The luxurious ballroom was a breathtaking display of high-society elegance. Highly reflective marble floors gleamed under the warm, golden light of massive crystal chandeliers. Elegant party guests mingled in the blurred background, sipping champagne beneath archways decorated with blue and white balloons for a prestigious charity auction.

But for Xavier Blackwood, the entire world was about to violently stop spinning.

Xavier, a towering billionaire in his late thirties, stood near the VIP tables holding a crystal tumbler of scotch. He wore a tailored black suit with an unbuttoned white shirt, exposing the edge of the dark tattoos on his neck and chest. He was ruthless, untouchable, and deeply isolated.

Suddenly, a tiny boy stepped right into his path.

It was Nathan, a seven-year-old with dark hair, wearing a miniature navy suit, a crisp white shirt, and a black bowtie. The boy looked up at the towering billionaire, completely unafraid, and happily reached his small hand out toward Xavier.

"Hi," Nathan smiled brightly. "I'm Nathan."

Before Xavier could even react, a woman rushed forward from the crowd. She was in her early thirties, wearing a stunning, plunging gold sequined evening gown, her long wavy brown hair flowing over her shoulders. She nervously grabbed Nathan's arm to pull him back.

It was Sophia.

A tight cinematic close-up captured Xavier’s face. The arrogant billionaire completely froze. His realistic micro-expressions shifted from mild irritation to absolute, paralyzing shock and sheer horror. He stared at the woman's face, and then down at the boy who shared his exact dark eyes and sharp jawline.
