Chapter 3 - The Ghost's Confession

Anna pulled her wrist away, dropping to her knees on the polished hardwood floor, weeping uncontrollably. She realized she was completely, inescapably trapped.

"He's my son!" Anna sobbed hysterically, burying her face in her hands. "Noah is my son!"

Vincent stumbled backward, grabbing the edge of the dining table to keep his balance. His mind violently rejected the words.

"You're lying," Vincent growled, his chest heaving under his white shirt. "My wife carried that child! The doctors pulled him from her body after the crash! I have the birth certificate! I have the medical records! You are a deranged, delusional stalker, and I am calling the police right now!"

He reached into his pocket, pulling out his cell phone.

"Call them!" Anna shrieked, looking up at him with absolute, fierce maternal rage. "Call the police, Vincent! Have them run a DNA test on me and Noah! They will prove he is my biological child!"

Vincent froze, his thumb hovering over the screen. The sheer confidence in her voice made his blood turn to ice.

"Sarah wasn't pregnant, Vincent," Anna cried, her voice echoing through the massive room. "Your wife was completely infertile. But she knew that if she didn't give you an heir, your family's trust fund would completely cut you out of the corporate empire. She couldn't risk losing the money."

The cinematic realization began to slowly, agonizingly dawn on Vincent.

"So she found me," Anna whispered, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. "I was eighteen, homeless, and terrified. She offered me fifty thousand dollars to carry her child. She locked me in a private clinic for nine months. But when Noah was born, I didn't want the money anymore. I wanted my baby."
