Chapter 4 - The Stolen Child

Vincent stared at the weeping maid on the floor, his entire reality shattering into a million pieces.
"What did she do?" Vincent choked out, his voice barely a whisper.
"She tried to kill me," Anna sobbed, clutching her black uniform dress. "The night I gave birth, Sarah came to the clinic. I begged her to let me keep him. She laughed in my face. She paid the corrupt doctor to heavily sedate me. She took my newborn baby from my arms and walked out the door."
Vincent’s mind flashed back to the night of the accident.
He remembered the frantic phone call from the hospital. The police told him Sarah had crashed her car into a ravine during a heavy rainstorm. They claimed she had miraculously given birth in the ambulance just before she died.
"There was no emergency C-section in an ambulance, Vincent," Anna explained, her voice thick with trauma. "She was driving away from the clinic with my stolen baby in the backseat when she lost control of the car. She died because she was speeding in the rain to secure her fake legacy."
Vincent collapsed into one of the expensive dining chairs, completely paralyzed.
For an entire year, he had mourned a woman who was actually a sociopathic monster. He had loved a son he believed was his own flesh and blood.
"If he is your son," Vincent whispered, looking at the blonde-haired baby sitting quietly in the highchair, "why did you come here as a maid? Why didn't you go to the police?"
Anna looked at the powerful, towering corporate boss with sheer terror.
