Chapter 5 - The Hallway Clash

Earlier that exact afternoon, just before the ceremony doors opened, Eleanor had reached her absolute, final breaking point.

Unable to bear the thought of watching the murderer marry her son while wearing the dead mother's engagement ring, Eleanor had physically grabbed Lucas's hand and tried to pull him toward the exit doors, attempting to flee the mansion entirely.

"You can't do this!" Eleanor had shouted angrily, her voice shaking with furious tears as she confronted the Bride directly in the arched doorway of the grand hall. "I don't care what you do to me! We are leaving! I am calling the police!"

The Bride hadn't panicked. She hadn't yelled. She simply stepped forward, her white lace long-sleeve wedding dress rustling softly, a chilling, psychotic smirk spreading across her face.

She leaned in close to Eleanor's ear, entirely unbothered by the fact that little Lucas was standing right beside them listening to every single word.

"You can call whoever you want, old woman," the Bride had sneered defensively, her voice dropping into a cold, venomous register. "I did every way to my sister. I poisoned her, I buried her, and I took her life. And I will gladly do the exact same thing to you and your precious grandson if you take one more step toward those doors."

She had confessed. She had proudly, arrogantly admitted to the premeditated murder of her own sister, completely believing she was entirely untouchable because Eleanor was too terrified of the sniper to record it.

She didn't know that Lucas wasn't holding a toy. He was holding a high-definition digital audio recorder disguised as a silver pocket watch that his father had given him for luck.
