Chapter 4 - The Admiral's Approach

The quiet hum of the ocean waves was the only sound left on the beach.
An imposing, towering man in his sixties walked slowly across the sand. It was Admiral Vance, the highest-ranking, most decorated and fiercely respected commanding officer in the entire fleet. He wore a flawless, spotless white Navy dress uniform, heavy with gold medals of valor.
Every single officer on the beach immediately snapped to rigid attention, completely silent out of absolute respect.
The Admiral completely ignored Captain Richard. He completely ignored the shivering, terrified Chloe.
He walked directly up to Harper.
He stopped perfectly in front of her, forming a massive, protective shield between the humiliated server and the staring crowd.
Harper kept her head down, clutching her torn blue shirt tightly against her chest, deeply ashamed of her scars and the broken, quiet life she had been forced to live since she was medically discharged. She expected the Admiral to fire her from the catering company for causing a scene.
But the Admiral didn't yell. He didn't demand an apology for the shattered champagne glasses.
