Chapter 5 - The Search

A medium cinematic shot captured the intense, paralyzing moment.

Admiral Vance didn't look at her like a server. He looked at her like a ghost he had been desperately trying to find for a very long time.

"I've been looking for you for five years," the Admiral stated. His voice was incredibly low, steady, and vibrating with immense, undeniable authority.

Harper stopped breathing. The air in her lungs violently turned to absolute ice. She finally, slowly raised her head, looking into the eyes of the most powerful man in the Navy.

The cinematic realism of the moment crashed over the entire beach club.

Five years ago, during a highly classified, catastrophic extraction mission overseas, a massive enemy ambush had pinned down an entire platoon of Navy SEALs. A young, unknown medic had repeatedly, fearlessly run directly into heavy enemy fire, dragging six critically wounded men to the extraction chopper before taking a direct, point-blank hit from a mortar shell.

That medic had miraculously survived the explosion, but she had been heavily sedated, transferred to a black-site hospital, and quietly medically discharged before any of the surviving men could ever learn her name.

The Admiral’s own son had been one of the men she pulled from the fire.
