Chapter 9 - The Bride in Handcuffs

Daniel’s head of security had triggered the silent alarm and contacted the FBI the second Daniel had intercepted the burner phone.

A dozen federal agents and local police officers swarmed through the front doors, their weapons drawn. Daniel calmly handed the lead detective the black burner phone and his late wife’s sapphire ring.

“Victoria Sterling,” the detective announced, reading the texts on the screen. “You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, first-degree murder, and attempted kidnapping.”

“Don't touch me!” Victoria wailed hysterically as the officers forcefully hauled her to her feet.

They didn't let her change clothes. They violently slapped heavy steel handcuffs over her wrists, snagging the delicate crystal embroidery of her luxurious white satin gown.

The officers dragged the screaming, thrashing bride out of the foyer and marched her directly past the grand ballroom. Inside, three hundred of the country’s most elite, wealthy guests had been waiting for the wedding ceremony to begin.

They all poured out into the hallway, gasping in absolute, breathless shock as they watched the glamorous bride being paraded in handcuffs, weeping like a pathetic criminal. The whispers and cell phone cameras flashed instantly.

Her high-society reputation, her freedom, and her toxic existence were entirely, permanently swallowed into violent ruin.
