Chapter 10 - The Vow of Protection

Alex walked over to Nora. The guards had released her, and she was clutching Ivy to her chest, trembling from the sheer adrenaline of the ordeal.
"I am so incredibly sorry, Nora," Alex whispered, genuine remorse softening his dark, intense eyes. "I brought a monster into this house, and I allowed you and your daughter to be terrorized. It will never happen again."
Nora looked up at the powerful billionaire, tears of profound relief streaming down her cheeks. "Thank you for believing her. Thank you for saving us."
Alex dropped to one knee, looking directly at little Ivy.
He didn't see a maid's child. He saw a brave, innocent girl who had comforted him in his darkness and saved his life from a deadly assassination plot.
"You are a very brave little bird, Ivy," Alex smiled warmly. He gently reached into his pocket and pulled out the wooden hairbrush she had left in the living room, handing it back to her.
He stood up and looked at Nora.
"You are no longer a maid in this house, Nora," Alex declared softly. "You are now the Head of Estate Management. I am doubling your salary, clearing any debts you have, and moving you both into a secure, private suite in the east wing. You and Ivy are under my absolute, unconditional protection. Nobody will ever threaten you again."
Nora broke down into heavy, beautiful sobs, nodding her head as the crushing weight of fear completely evaporated.
In the months that followed, Vivian was sentenced to forty years in federal prison, completely abandoned by everyone. The rival cartel was crushed by Alex’s wrath.

But inside the grand mansion, the cold darkness was replaced with warmth and laughter. Ivy ran freely through the halls, completely fearless, knowing that the most dangerous man in the city wasn't a monster, but her greatest protector.
Do you think a forty-year prison sentence was enough justice for Vivian, or did the cruel fiancée deserve a harsher punishment from the syndicate?
