Chapter 6 - The Voice of Innocence

The tension in the kitchen was suffocating. The guards waited for Alex to give the final, lethal order.

But Alex didn't shout. He didn't order Nora to be dragged away.

Instead, the towering syndicate boss completely ignored his expensive black suit. He slowly walked over and dropped to one knee right in front of little Ivy, bringing himself to her eye level.

"Ivy," Alex said, his deep voice completely stripped of its terrifying authority, returning to the gentle tone he used in the living room. "I need you to look at me."

Ivy sniffled, wiping her wet cheeks with the sleeve of her pink dress. She looked bravely into the dark, intimidating eyes of the billionaire.

"Did your mommy put that shiny necklace in your bag?" Alex asked quietly.

"Alex, what are you doing?!" Vivian scoffed loudly. "You are asking a thief's child to tell the truth? She's been trained to lie!"

Alex didn't even look at Vivian. He raised his heavily tattooed hand, silencing his fiancée with a single, dangerous gesture. He kept his eyes locked on the little girl.

"No," Ivy whispered, her voice trembling but incredibly clear.

"Then how did it get in your bag, little bird?" Alex asked softly.

Ivy looked past Alex, pointing her tiny finger directly at Vivian.

"The mean lady with the red nails put it in there," Ivy declared innocently. "I was hiding under the big table playing hide-and-seek. I saw her open my bag and push the shiny rocks inside."
