Chapter 3 - The Untouchable Child

The older guard in the background instinctively stepped forward to carry out the order, but a single, lethal glance from Alex stopped him dead in his tracks.

Alex slowly stood up from the gold-trimmed armchair. His towering, muscular frame completely eclipsed Vivian. The gentle warmth he had shown Ivy instantly vanished, replaced by the freezing, terrifying aura of a ruthless king.

"Nobody is throwing them out," Alex stated, his voice a low, echoing rumble.

Vivian gasped, her hand flying to her chest in theatrical shock. "Excuse me? She is a minimum-wage maid! Her child is leaving grubby fingerprints all over our imported furniture! You are going to let them disrespect me?!"

"The child was doing no harm," Alex replied coldly, adjusting the cuffs of his unbuttoned white shirt. "Nora is a hardworking woman. They stay. And you will not raise your voice to them again."

Vivian’s face turned the color of a tomato. She was completely humiliated in front of the estate security and a lowly servant. She aggressively grabbed her designer purse, glaring daggers at Nora.

"You will regret this," Vivian hissed under her breath as she stormed out of the living room.

Nora pulled Ivy tightly against her black and white maid uniform, trembling with fear. She knew women like Vivian. They didn't just get mad; they got even. And Nora desperately needed this job. She was hiding from a violently abusive ex-husband, and Alex’s heavily guarded mansion was the only place in Chicago where they were truly safe.

"Thank you, sir," Nora whispered, refusing to meet Alex's intense gaze.

"Keep your daughter close, Nora," Alex warned softly. "The halls of this house are not a playground."

Nora nodded rapidly and hurried out of the room. She thought the worst was over. She had no idea that Vivian had just initiated a horrific, cold-blooded plan to destroy them both.
