Chapter 2 - The Wicked Interruption
Nora remained on her knees, her heart hammering violently against her ribs. She watched in sheer disbelief as the fearsome syndicate leader simply closed his eyes, allowing the tiny four-year-old girl to gently pull the wooden brush through his dark hair.
For the first time in years, the crushing, suffocating tension inside the mansion completely evaporated.
"You looked sad," Ivy whispered innocently, patting Alex's shoulder. "My mommy brushes my hair when I have bad dreams. It makes the monsters go away."
Alex opened his eyes. He looked at the little girl in the pink lace dress. He lived in a world where everyone wanted his money, his power, or his life. But this child just wanted to comfort him.
Before Alex could speak, the sharp, aggressive clicking of high heels echoed across the marble floor.
The heavy mahogany doors swung open. Vivian, Alex’s high-society fiancée, stormed into the living room. She wore a stunning, skin-tight red designer dress and a massive diamond engagement ring. To the public, she was an elegant socialite. Behind closed doors, she was a cruel, calculating monster who despised the estate staff.
When Vivian saw the scene in the armchair, her flawless face twisted into a mask of pure, vicious disgust.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Vivian shrieked, completely shattering the peaceful silence. "Get your filthy hands off him, you little brat!"
Ivy flinched violently, dropping the wooden hairbrush. She scrambled backward, hiding behind Alex’s armchair.
Nora immediately sprang to her feet, rushing forward to grab her daughter, terrified of the woman who essentially ruled the house.
"I apologize, Miss Vivian," Nora pleaded, bowing her head submissively. "She just wandered in. It won't happen again."
Vivian marched forward, pointing a manicured finger with razor-sharp red acrylic nails directly at Nora's face.

"You are completely incompetent!" Vivian screamed. "I told you yesterday to keep your filthy rodent of a child out of the main wing! Alex, have the guards throw them both out onto the street immediately!"
