Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Alex tapped the screen of his phone, mirroring the video feed directly to the massive flat-screen television mounted on the kitchen wall.
The high-definition footage began to play.
Clear as day, the video showed the empty kitchen from thirty minutes ago. Vivian sneaked into the room, holding the sapphire necklace. She quickly unzipped Ivy’s pink backpack, shoved the jewelry inside, and smirked before hurrying out.
Nora let out a heavy, beautiful sob of pure relief. She wasn't going to prison. She wasn't going to lose her daughter.
But the video didn't stop there.
"I wasn't just reviewing the kitchen footage, Vivian," Alex said, his voice dropping to a lethal whisper. "I checked the cameras in your private study."
The video on the screen switched to a new angle. It showed Vivian sitting at her mahogany desk late last night, talking on a burner phone. The audio was crystal clear.
"The transfer is complete," Vivian’s recorded voice echoed through the kitchen. "I’ve siphoned the last four million from his offshore accounts. Tell the Barone family I'll leave the back gate unlocked at 2:00 AM on Thursday. Make sure he doesn't survive the hit. I want to be a wealthy widow by Friday."
The entire kitchen went dead silent.
Vivian hadn't just framed a maid out of spite. She was actively embezzling millions of dollars and conspiring with a rival cartel to have Alex violently assassinated in his own home.
All the blood violently rushed from Vivian’s face. She stumbled backward, hitting the marble counter, completely trapped.
