Chapter 1 - The Blue Blanket

The grand luxury dining room was a blinding display of wealth and power. Crystal chandeliers hung from the soaring ceiling, casting a warm, flickering glow over the crisp white tablecloths. Formal guests murmured quietly in the background, nursing expensive wine.

But at the edge of the room, the elegant atmosphere was completely shattered.

Victoria stood aggressively over an elderly woman sitting quietly in a dining chair. Victoria was an elegant woman in her thirties, wearing a stunning red strapless evening gown, her dark hair pinned into a flawless updo. Diamond drop earrings sparkled as she sneered, her face twisted with absolute disgust.

Sitting beneath her was Mrs. Moretti, a frail woman in her seventies with thinning gray hair. She wore a simple, faded dark blue dress. Draped securely over her trembling shoulders was a soft, light blue knitted blanket.

Victoria didn't look at the older woman. She pointed a sharp, manicured finger at the young maid standing directly behind the chair.

"Take that blanket off her," Victoria ordered. Her voice was aggressive, cold, and dripping with venom.

Anna, a young woman in her twenties wearing a classic black and white maid uniform, froze. She looked down at the frail elderly woman, who was shivering despite the warmth of the dining room.

Anna’s hands gently tightened their grip on the edges of the light blue blanket, holding it securely against Mrs. Moretti's shoulders. She refused to pull it away.

"Mrs. Moretti said she was cold, ma'am," Anna whispered, her voice soft but fiercely protective.

Victoria’s eyes narrowed into lethal slits. "I don't care what she said. It's an eyesore, and it's ruining the aesthetic of my dinner party. Take it off her right now, or you're fired."
