Chapter 7 - The Arrest

"No! Please! Not the basement!" Victoria screamed, kicking her legs wildly, completely losing her mind at the thought of the freezing concrete room.

"Call the police," Leo told Marco, turning his back on his fiancée. "Hand over the financial ledgers. Tell them she committed wire fraud, grand larceny, and elder abuse. Tell the District Attorney I want her denied bail."

"Yes, Boss." Marco nodded, pulling out his radio.

Within ten minutes, the flashing red and blue lights of half a dozen police cruisers illuminated the grand windows of the dining room. Four uniformed officers marched into the estate.

"Victoria Vance," the lead officer barked, hauling the thrashing woman up from the marble floor. "You are under arrest."

The elegant, untouchable high-society woman was completely ruined. Her red gown dragged pathetically on the ground as the cold steel handcuffs clicked tightly around her wrists.

"Leo, you need me!" Victoria shrieked as she was dragged toward the front doors. "You're a monster! You'll die alone!"

"I'd rather die alone than sleep next to a parasite," Leo replied smoothly, not even turning his head to watch her leave.

The heavy oak doors slammed shut. The wealthy dinner guests quietly and awkwardly excused themselves, fleeing the mansion as the estate officially became a crime scene.

When the room was finally empty, Leo let out a long, heavy, shuddering breath. The intimidating, ruthless aura completely melted away, leaving behind a deeply exhausted, heartbroken son.

He turned back to the dining table.
