Chapter 2 - The Heartbroken Mother

The heavy footsteps stopped right beside the dining table.

It was Leo. He was a powerfully muscular man in his late thirties, wearing a tailored all-black suit with a black shirt. Intricate, dark tattoos crept up his neck and covered the backs of his hands. He was the most feared syndicate boss in the city, but right now, all of his terrifying authority vanished.

Leo completely ignored Victoria. He crouched down and gently placed his large, tattooed hand over his mother's frail, wrinkled fingers.

He looked at the light blue blanket, then at his mother's pale, shivering face.

"Why didn't you tell me you were cold, Mama?" Leo asked, his deep voice filled with profound, desperate concern.

Mrs. Moretti slowly raised her head. Heavy tears were streaming down her wrinkled cheeks. Her expression wasn't just cold; it was utterly, profoundly heartbroken and exhausted. She looked at her powerful son as if she had completely given up on life.

"I don't have a bed anymore, Leo," the older woman cried softly, her fragile voice cracking.

The entire dining room seemed to stop breathing.

Leo froze completely. A tight, cinematic close-up captured his face as his expression instantly shifted. The gentle, concerned son evaporated in a fraction of a second, replaced entirely by a terrifying, dark, and lethal fury.

He slowly stood up to his full, towering height. He didn't yell. He didn't pull a weapon.

With explosive, bone-shattering force, Leo slammed his heavily tattooed hand down onto the crisp white tablecloth. The crystal wine glasses violently tipped over, shattering against the marble.

"Where has my mother been sleeping?!" Leo roared, his voice shaking the walls of the dining room.
