Chapter 5 - The Stolen Millions

"Leo, please!" Victoria sobbed hysterically from the floor, her flawless updo falling apart into a messy tangle. "Don't look at the ledgers! I can explain! It was an investment for us!"
"Stay on the floor," Leo warned softly, releasing her wrist.
Within two minutes, the heavy double doors of the dining room swung open. Marco, a massive man in a tactical suit, walked in carrying a heavy leather bound binder. He placed it directly on the table in front of Leo.
Leo opened the binder. He flipped past the legitimate estate expenses and went straight to the back, where Marco had flagged the offshore accounts.
"My mother is not senile, Victoria," Leo stated, his voice echoing in the silent room. "In fact, she is the sole signatory on the family's charitable trust fund. A fund containing twenty million dollars."
Victoria buried her face in her hands, weeping loudly.
"You didn't put her in the basement because she embarrassed you," Leo deduced, the horrifying reality clicking perfectly into place. "You put her down there to isolate her. So she couldn't speak to my accountants."
He turned the binder around so the elite guests could see the highlighted bank statements.
"You've been forcing her to sign blank transfer authorizations," Leo said, his voice a low, lethal rumble. "You've drained three million dollars from the charity fund into your personal offshore accounts to pay for your designer dresses, your jewelry, and your 'brand.'"
The guests stared in absolute horror. The woman they had been drinking champagne with was a monster.
"I was going to pay it back!" Victoria shrieked, crawling toward Leo's polished black shoes. "The real estate market dipped! I just needed a bridge loan! Please, Leo, I love you!"

"You don't know what love is," Leo replied coldly.
