Chapter 9 - The Ultimate Humiliation

"No! You can't do this to me!" Jodi shrieked hysterically. She tried to run toward the gym doors, but Travis stepped sideways, blocking her only escape route.

Officer Miller grabbed Jodi’s arms, forcefully pulling them behind her back. The cold steel cuffs clicked loudly, echoing across the dead silent gymnasium.

Jodi wept pathetically, her mustard yellow blouse wrinkled and ruined as she was paraded across the basketball court in absolute disgrace. Every parent, every student, and every teacher in the town watched as the woman who had terrorized her own family was dragged out the double doors in handcuffs.

Her reputation, her freedom, and her luxurious lifestyle were permanently destroyed.

Travis stood on the court, breathing heavily. He looked at Officer Miller.

"I'll be down at the station in an hour to give a full confession," Travis said softly. "I didn't forge the documents, but I knew she was stealing. I'll take whatever punishment the judge hands down."

Officer Miller nodded respectfully. "I'll see you there, Travis."

As the doors closed behind the police, the gymnasium remained completely still. The tension was finally broken, leaving behind a profound, emotional silence.

Travis slowly turned around. He looked at Kaylee and Duane. He knew he had done the right thing, but he also knew he didn't deserve to share their spotlight.
