The grand luxury dining room of the massive Moretti family mansion was a breathtaking, cinematic display of absolute, intimidating underworld wealth. A towering, brilliantly sparkling crystal chandelier hung majestically from the high ceiling, casting a warm, expensive glow over a ridiculously long dining table perfectly draped in a pristine white tablecloth. The room was completely surrounded by dozens of elite, formally dressed guests in sharp black suits and elegant dark gowns, mingling softly while holding expensive crystal glasses of vintage champagne. They were the most powerful, dangerous people in the city.
But the sophisticated, high-society atmosphere was suddenly filled with a sharp, suffocating tension near the head of the massive table.
Standing tall and incredibly arrogant was the Madam of the house, Valeria. She was a woman in her forties with her blonde hair elegantly styled up into a flawless, expensive updo. She wore a breathtaking, dark burgundy off-the-shoulder silk dress that caught the chandelier light, and heavy diamond earrings glittered coldly against her neck. Her face was twisted into a mask of pure, unfiltered elitist disgust.
She was glaring directly at a young woman in a classic black-and-white maid's uniform, whose hair was pulled back into a neat, practical bun. The young maid, Sophia, was firmly gripping the handles of an expensive medical wheelchair.
Sitting motionless in that wheelchair was the Elderly Mother, Mrs. Moretti. She was a frail woman with bright white hair, dressed impeccably in a dark blue sequined dress and pearl earrings, her head resting weakly against the back of the chair.
Valeria pointed a manicured finger toward the hallway, absolutely furious that the maid had brought the "embarrassing" old woman down to her perfect, elite dinner party.
